Today’s virtual camera allows us to freely recalibrate our photographic gaze, even capturing images from surreal vantage points. Such control—together with the question of “where the wind blows” in digital realms—kindles a renewed reflection on light and shadow. Every image is an absence conjured into presence, while a game avatar becomes the embodied persona, a living shadow of our identity.

In the boundless digital landscapes of World of Warcraft, players traverse nonlinear realms, weaving multifaceted selves through their avatars. Each character—infused with intricate backstories and lived experiences—anchors unique narratives in novels, artwork, or videos. Through words, actions, and distinctive appearances, players breathe life into these avatars, often sustaining multiple identities within a single shared world.




The images are based on character novels written by real players and span from 2022 to the present.
